Maneka and Ajaz's journey is driven by their passions and a commitment to creating meaningful experiences. Maneka’s first love was English, and she always knew she wanted to write. With a sharp focus, she completed her Bachelor's in Mass Media and joined one of India’s largest media companies right after college. After two decades as a journalist and content writer, she decided to channel her entrepreneurial spirit into creating Esmique.
So, why jewelry?
For Maneka, the allure of diamonds has always captivated her. Some of her fondest memories are of playing dress-up with her mother's jewelry. As a seventh-grader, she dreamed of owning a pair of solitaire earrings—a dream she made a reality after years of saving. Her love for jewelry has only deepened over time, with friends and family often seeking her advice when purchasing pieces. Starting a jewelry brand felt like a natural, organic step in her journey.
As for Ajaz, he was once an investment banker but followed his heart to a new passion: dancing. Leaving behind his corporate job, he founded a dance studio and has been teaching Latin American dances—like Salsa, Bachata, and Argentine Tango—for over 20 years. His dance studios and collaborations are now a staple in Mumbai’s vibrant scene. It was this shared love for dancing that brought Maneka and Ajaz together. When they’re not working, you’ll find them dancing their hearts out in the city. Ajaz also has a passion for collecting pop culture memorabilia, which he turned into a thriving e-commerce business during the pandemic.
